Parent of Twins
Pete worked with my twin sons using his Open Doors Therapy over a 12 month period in 2017-18.
At that time the boys were a major source of anxiety to myself and my husband as they were unable to make any significant progress at school and were falling behind. No specific learning difficulty could be identified. Their self-esteem was beginning to suffer, and one of them in particular was showing signs of anxiety which were beginning to affect his physical health. As an experienced teacher myself I was perplexed as to why, despite expert support at school and at home, little academic progress could be made by either twin when ostensibly there as no specific learning difficulty. Our family was under severe pressure over the boys, especially as transfer to secondary school was approaching.
Reading about Open Doors Therapy was like a Eureka moment! The information about Retained Infant Reflexes could have been descriptions of my own boys. I just knew that, however bizarre the idea sounded, my boys would benefit from therapy.
Pete did not disappoint! From the moment I spoke to him on the phone he was warm, conscientious, honest and reassuring. When he met my boys, he immediately put them at their ease. He was able to build their self-esteem and lower their anxiety levels (and mine!) whilst working on their physical reflexes.
He was sensitive, shrewd and intuitive to their emotional needs, whilst being very thorough and analytical about their physical therapy. He was extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of educational development and he worked incredibly hard with us over approximately six three hour sessions. It was thoroughly refreshing to see someone genuinely accept, understand and celebrate a child for who they are as an individual; to see the child as whole person with many strengths outside the remit of what normally goes on in the classroom; and most importantly of all, to get the child himself - and his parents - to think in this way too.
As a family we benefitted inordinately from Pete's help. The boys have lost their retained infant reflexes. Their handwriting, posture and concentration levels are much improved, and both are enjoying Secondary School where they are no longer lagging behind their peers. In fact, both boys are doing particularly well in Science and Beliefs and Issues! Finally they feel good about themselves. As parents we love them as they are. Since Pete's intervention we understand them much better and celebrate their many strengths. I now have complete confidence in their ability to succeed in life.
We will always be grateful for the transformative effect of Pete's Open Doors Therapy, and will remember in particular his genuine enthusiasm when he discovered that he and one of my sons shared an interest in wood working. He advised us where to buy model kits, and was always keen to admire the things my son had so proudly constructed in his own individual way, with scant reference to the instructions!
I believe Pete Griffin is a rarity: someone with real integrity and passion for the development, education and long term emotional well-being of a whole person, and family. I cannot thank him enough for the lasting effect I believe he has had on our lives.
