Our Programme

Our Programme

Neuro-Physiological Therapy is non-invasive and drug free and all our programs are specifically tailored to each child’s needs;

As educational and behavioural experts, we became concerned about those children who, despite all the support and outstanding teaching, continued to perform below expectations.

Research led us to discover that about 75% of these children had not fully completed very subtle steps in their neuro-physiological development. This is called Neuro Motor Immaturity.

Step 1

To find out if Neuro Motor Immaturity is part of the underlying cause, we will need to look at your child’s early development and what clues the body gives about the way in which information is transmitted to and from the brain.

This is done through a brief telephone discussion to decide if Open Doors Therapy is likely to be beneficial to your child.

Step 2

If we think we can help, we will arrange to do a half day assessment on your child, with you present.

We will look at your child’s:

  •  Balance and co-ordination
  •  primitive (baby) and postural (grown up) reflexes
  •  Crawling and creeping
  •  Left and right dominance
  •  'seeing’ perception
  •  'hearing’ perception

It is during this assessment that we will start to describe to you what we think your child’s problems are and how we can help. After this, you decide whether or not the therapy is right for your child and if we cannot help, or you are not convinced, there is no fee to pay!

Step 3

After our initial assessment and explanation of how Neuro Physiological Therapy can help, we will prescribe a course of therapeutic exercises to be carried out for approximately 10 minutes daily which should bring about significant improvements. It is rare for our treatment to exceed more than 12 months with a child and we expect you to see some benefit after about three months.

We provide training to both you and your child about how to carry out the first exercise at home and provide you with an information sheet to take home with you.

Step 4

Over the next 10 days, we will write a report on your child, including our findings and our recommendations. You should give a copy of the report to your child’s school and anybody else working with your child.

Step 5

We will arrange to have a further discussion over the following 14 days to go through the report and see how the exercise is progressing.

Step 6

By agreement we will reassess your child, check progress and decide on the next exercises every 6 to 8 weeks, for a period of 12 months.

Very rarely do we need to work for longer than 12 months with a child. We expect you to see some benefit after three months.
