These two pictures tell the story of a ten year old (SEN) girl who was making no academic progress despite a lot of support and intervention. After a twelve month INPP school exercise programme, a door opened and she began to make not just academic progress but began to understand and tell jokes for the first time in her life.......she started to grow up despite her learning difficulties!
If ‘Neuro-physiologically’ your view of the world is fractured, your learning and your expression of learning will be fractured. You have only a literal understanding of language. Despite all the encouragement and support, you have made at best 2 years progress in the past 5 years. You have a Statement of Special Educational Needs. The gap between you and your friends is ever widening and you are becoming more aware, more frustrated and more isolated. Your door is definitely closing.
Give you a firmer ‘Neuro-physiological’ foundation and your world is less fractured and you have the potential to achieve more! A door opens. Now you make better sense of your world and express yourself more fluently. You can even understand and tell simple jokes! You still need the encouragement and support but you start to make measurable progress. You improve by 2 years in reading and 16 months in writing and maths – we’ve clicked some switches on your brain.
