Billy was put on an individual programme because of his special educational needs. He was considered ‘odd’ by many. It was while I was assessing him that I realised that he did not like anyone to invade his body space nor to touch him. I found out later that he always sat apart from everyone at home and never allowed cuddles.

Three months into his programme and Billy had started to gradually move closer to his mum when they were watching TV and eventually started cuddling up to her. He was happier at school and at home
